The Master Degree in Public Health, also known as the MPH Degree, is an advanced educational degree that is of interest to those people who are interested in the practice of public health. What does that mean exactly? Well, if you take an interest in the health of the other people in your community and you want to work in a field that allows you to improve their health then you would probably be interested in Masters in Public Health Programs.

What Do You Do with a Masters in Public Health?

The Masters in Public Health is a degree that you use to work in the field of community and individual health care. As a person who has obtained a Public Health Masters Degree you would be working to do three core things: prevent disease in the populations with which you are working, prolong the life of the people that you are serving within the community where you work and improve the quality of that life by promoting health in a variety of different ways. You would use your Masters in Public Health to work with individuals as well as with groups. 5 Core Areas of MPH Degrees

There are five basic areas of study that are typically associated with MPH Degrees. Public Health Policy and Management is a topical area of interest to people getting an MPH Degree although most people will work more directly with patients than in areas of public policy. The other areas of focus that are studied when getting a Masters Degree in Public Health are biological statistics, epidemiology (what causes disease), environmental health issues and behavioral health issues. Within these categories there is room to study almost any kind of public health issue that interests you as you pursue your Master of Public Health Degree.

The Importance of the Master of Public Health
